This week at VISIT FLORIDA’s Digital Innovation Forum in Orlando, travel technology start-ups from all over the U.S. present their innovative products.

As a low cost, high opportunity market for technology (JLL Technology), Orlando hosts diverse clusters of cybersecurity, game, mobile app and software development, data analytics, financial technology, and more. Orlando sees largest gain in national startup list

Orlando saw the biggest jump in rank in this year’s Kauffman Index of Startup Activity State and Metro Trends report of any other large metro area. The Orlando region landed at the No. 21 spot, up significantly from last year’s ranking of No. 33. This jump was the highest in rank out of all of the metro areas ranked by the index indicating an increasing pace of growth in the Orlando startup community.

Orlando's tech scene focus of week-long showcase

Now more than ever, Orlando’s tech scene is exploding into a thriving, bustling epicenter for innovation and creative tech fueled by Orlando’s diverse clusters of game, app and software development; modeling, simulation and training; healthcare IT; fintech and more.

Orlando's tech scene was the focus of the Orlando EDC's April "Insider Update" which featured a panel discussion with Orlando Tech Association Executive Director Orrett Davis, Fattmerchant Founder and CEO Suneera Madhani, and Co-Founder and CEO of Trobo the Storytelling Robot Jeremy Scheinberg. The event was held in conjunction with Orlando Tech Week, an annual showcase of technology, creativity and entrepreneurial clusters that connects thought leaders from a variety of sectors over the course of a week with guest speakers, workshops, meetups and other events.

Game changers – women in tech

Picture the typical tech entrepreneur. Did you picture a woman? If not, it may be time to change your perception.

Women make up 30 percent of the tech industry workforce, based on diversity reports published by 11 of the world’s largest tech companies last year. A strong number, but when you take a look at the top females in leadership or technical roles, it’s significantly lower in positions of influence toward the company’s product development or strategic direction.

Without diversity on the leading edges of tech and innovation how can we expect to progress forward?

In Orlando, female tech entrepreneurs are leading the way. In fact Orlando’s emerging tech scene is now home to one of the largest tech meetup groups in the country, and for every tech company you’ll find a women either in a leadership position or as a founding member. Orlando-based startups earn venture capital offers on hit TV show

Three things – they’re homegrown startups from Orlando, they graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) and they’ve received venture capital offers from ABC’s TV show “Shark Tank.”
