Economic Summit focuses on job creation and tech industry

The Orlando region's expanding economy, recent job growth and burgeoning tech industry were the focuses of the 2016 Orange County Economic Summit hosted by Mayor Teresa Jacobs at the Orange County Convention Center. The Summit, now in its fourth year, provides an annual report on the economy and highlights strong business sectors and growing industries. More than 650 citizens and community leaders attended this year's event.

OTRONICON highlights Orlando innovation

The Orlando Electronic Interactive Entertainment Convention, known as OTRONICON, returned to the Orlando Science Center January 15-18, 2016 showcasing the science, art and technology behind the innovative fields of simulation, robotics, videogames, digital media and virtual reality.

The four-day event, now in its eleventh year, gives guests an inside look at Orlando’s state-of-the-art gaming and simulation technology industries that include military and medical simulations. The engaging displays ignite interest in students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through these innovative industries and demonstrations.

Events like OTRONICON help recruit and retain qualified talent to the Orlando region by establishing an early connection with students and proving that STEM fields are not only fun, but also viable career paths that are available right in their backyard.

Orlando hosts summit on smart sensor technology

The world’s leading experts on smart sensor technology gathered in the Orlando region, for the first time, for the 2015 TSensors Summit held at the Florida Hospital Nicholson Center. The smart sensors industry is expected to be worth more than $154 billion by 2020 and is forecasted to increase the global economy by $18 to $32 trillion in the next 10 years. 

The summit brought academics, researchers and leaders in the sensor and MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) industries together to discuss how technology can address pressing global issues, like hunger and pollution, by connecting trillions of sensors that support the Internet of Things (loT).

Largest crowd ever attends Orlando EDC BBQ on the Boulevard

The Orlando EDC welcomed the largest crowd ever to its annual BBQ on the Boulevard with more than 1,000 registered attendees. The event, which blocks off Central Boulevard in front of Lake Eola, is one of the EDC's signature events and is now in its 26th year. 

From networking to great BBQ and the debut of the first ever Tech Tent, Orlando's business and community leaders look forward to the fun filled evening every November.  

This year, the BBQ on the Boulevard featured a number of new and exciting elements such as the Tech Tent, photo booths and free giveaways. The Tech Tent showcased the recent exponential growth of Orlando’s tech scene with an area devoted solely to several local tech companies. Made possible by the Florida High Tech Corridor in partnership with the Orlando Tech Association, the Tech Tent featured innovative technologies and devices that are made in Orlando by companies from all over the region. Attendees were able to meet the innovators behind companies like FRESHeTECH, Limbitless Solutions, TROBO, Electron Machine Corporation and Photon-X and get an up-close look at their products.

Orlando EDC BBQ on the Boulevard event gets techie

This year the Orlando EDC’s BBQ on the Blvd on Nov. 4th will debut the Tech Tent, to celebrate the recent exponential growth of Orlando’s tech scene with a few local tech companies.

OrlandoiX highlights Orlando's tech industry

October kicked off with the inaugural tech convention, OrlandoiX, attracting people from across the country to come together for five days of learning, playing, connecting and digital innovation. The event, held at the Orange County Convention Center from October 2-6, brought together creative technologists from gamers and entrepreneurs, to Orlando-based companies like IZEA, Maker Studios and Ideas and even multinational corporations including the Coca-Cola Company, NFL and Dell.

The Orlando EDC joined partners including the Orlando Tech Association, Full Sail University and OUC – The Reliable One for the informational booth and demonstration side of the convention.

The event featured 96 speakers, 134 exhibitors, 5,600 attendees and 10.7 million social media impressions.
