Imagine walking into a coffee shop that serves quality, fair trade coffee and ordering a drink, but instead of getting a bill, the cashier asks, “How much would you like to pay?” One might wonder how such a place could exist, but it does - at Downtown CREDO, right here in Orlando. CREDO functions as a donations-only coffee shop, meaning that customers choose their own price. Founded in 2010 by local social entrepreneur, Ben Hoyer, CREDO was created not because of a passion for coffee, but to serve as a vehicle for his purpose: to make his community better.

Orlando's VR and AR highlighted in major publications

Orlando’s growing expertise in the areas of virtual and augmented reality are the focus of two recently published stories that can be found by online audiences all around the world. “The Unreal, Bleeding-Edge Tech that’s Helping Doctors Make The Cut” appears in Fast Company and explores how facilities in Orlando are transforming how physicians are trained by utilizing virtual reality as a cost effective and more thorough hands-on learning experience. The second piece, in Quartz’s digital news site, highlights Full Sail University’s Fab Lab in “A Florida University is Making Quidditch a (Virtual) Reality.”

iGRO builds impactful connections for young talent in Orlando

A new Orlando Economic Partnership program is attracting young talent and helping them build connections while providing resources and networking opportunities for interns and new hires. Started by the Partnership’s Central Florida Young Professional Advisory Council (YPAC),  iGRO aims to attract, cultivate and retain talent in the Orlando region. The two-month program, taking place during June and July, showcases Central Florida while offering support through mentorship and events.

Orlando ranks No. 3 in Startup Density

Orlando ranks third in the 2017 Kauffman Index of Startup Activity in terms of Startup Density. The Kauffman Index is a series of studies measuring the results of entrepreneurial activity in a metropolitan area. The Index is a great predictor of an area’s growth because it measures “new business creation, market opportunity, and startup density.” The Index examines business activity in thirty-nine metropolitan areas by sampling and analyzing three components: rate of new entrepreneurs, opportunity share of new entrepreneurs, and startup density.
